If you’re back for more, you already know how well Joshua’s magic works. Enjoy browsing. Through Mail: Extra Credit
A complete comedy routine that fits into your wallet…including a no-palm Card to Wallet! From Joshua Jay: “This is the second release in my Wonder Wallet series, a collection of trick designed to fit comfortably inside your wallet. This trick is with you all the time and ready to go. “I love the concept of performing magic that feels real, and what could be more inviting—more natural—than sharing some photos with your audience. Mixed in with the real photos you already keep in your wallet, you show “Extra Credit,” a series of new, ridiculous cards. Some of the cards are gags. Others do visual or mental magic. And at the end, a selected card jumps back inside the wallet. “The gags included are new and fresh. They make fun with (and of) Michael Jackson, McDonalds, President Bush, and, of course, yourself! And you show a picture of your dog, who helps you find the spectator’s selected card. When you remove her card from your wallet, it’s almost completely chewed up! “The cards included are beautiful. Like “Vegas Visit,” Ben Harris designed each one. And every card is printed on extremely thin, durable stock so the entire kit fits comfortably into one credit card slot of your wallet. I’m running a special for a limited time: pick up the first two releases of my show-in-a-wallet series, “Wonder Wallet” together for a special discount found only here. “Vegas Visit” and “Wonder Wallet” are available worldwide for 25 dollars apiece. For a very limited time, I’m offering both, together, for 40 dollars! I know you have a choice when you buy your performance materials. Thanks for supporting the creators! Price: $25 Vegas Visit
It’s finally here! “Vegas Visit” is an hilarious, amazing Six Card Repeat with credit cards. This effect fits into your wallet, yet you can use it for audiences as small as one or as large as a thousand! How many 25-dollar effects can go directly into your PARLOR REPERTOIRE? From Joshua Jay: “This is the first release in my Wonder Wallet Series. For years I have honed a repertoire—a show—that is totally self-contained in my wallet. Imagine having a show that plays BIG with you all the time, right inside your billfold.” “Vegas Visit” is the first release in this five-part series and it has some fantastic qualities. First, I’m pleased to inform you that the effect is extremely easy to do. The script and handling are explained in great detail on the DVD that comes in the kit, but you’ll be pleasantly surprised at how easy it is to perform. “Vegas Visit” a comedic story effect about a wild trip to Vegas in which credit cards continually appear in your hands. You remove five credit cards from your wallet…and at your fingertips cards start to appear: tarot cards, business cards, calling cards, boarding cards, and, of course…playing cards. The effect incorporates elements of story, comedy, and magic, and it has served me well both walk-around (that’s right, THIS six-card repeat effect can be done just inches from your spectators…even tableside) AND IN PARLOR OR STAGE SITUATIONS! We sought out a foreign card manufacturer to print the playing cards, tarot cards, boarding cards, deportation cards, and all the other novelties on EXTREMELY thin, plastic coated cardstock. They’re durable enough to hold up heavy use in your wallet, yet thin enough to pack over 19 cards in one slot in your wallet. Those of you who follow my work know that I collaborate with Ben Harris because he’s the finest graphic artist in our business. I’m pleased to tell you he custom-designed every card (and you should see the tarot cards he did…they’re beautiful). I know you have a choice when you buy your performance materials. Thanks for supporting the creators! Session “The effects explained show a deep respect for the craft of magic, and a willingness to do what needs to be done to create an effect…There is something to be said for knowing where an artist is coming from before you begin to explore his work for yourself. This book not only rewards that effort, it encourages it. If you think you’d like this book, you will like this book.” M-U-M, The Society of American Magicians Magazine, November 2007
“Joshua Jay has proven himself, in these books and his monthly MAGIC magazine tricks column, to be an excellent writer and student of magic, as well as a good magician. I look forward to more from him.” The Magic Circular, November 2007
This book is geared toward magicians (sorry normal people) and details the magic of an incredible talent: Joel Givens. He’s also a longtime friend. We bucked all the trends and did something very different. You see, for nearly five hundred years, magic has been conveyed “recipe style” in books. Tricks are a list of materials and steps to follow. But can a magic book tell a story? Session is my answer. It’s not for everyone, and I’m sure there will be readers who can’t be bothered with plot and context. But for those who have always wanted to curl up with a magic book and just read, I think Session will be a welcome addition. Each trick is set within a scene—protagonists, antagonists, hecklers, and a cute waitress—it’s all here, and it’s all explained. Click HERE for an essay on writing Session and an excerpt from the book. Use the button below for International Orders Deluxe Leatherbound Edition: Limited to 150 numbered copies and signed by Joel Givens and Joshua Jay. 100 dollars plus 8 dollars shipping worldwide. Five Forty Seven Booklet
We also produced Five Forty Seven (sample), a separate booklet with 8 additional routines not included in the book. This was done mostly for friends, and will be available in an extremely limited edition. DVDs Talk About Tricks “The amount of good to great close-up tricks contained in Talk About Tricks…is staggering.” MAGIC Magazine, October 2007 “There’s so much interesting magic on this set that you are certain to find a couple of items you’ll like to do and more than a few you like to watch. Add to that the bits of finesse that you really must learn, and the exceptional performances, and you have on of the best video offerings in the last few years. Buy this.” M-U-M, The Society of American Magicians Magazine, October 2007 “This three-disc in one box set has so much bang for the buck that I’m not even going to try to list everything I believe makes this an excellent value. There are ‘commercial’ selections ready to drop into your repertoire, ‘magician’ items that you can fry your club buddies with, and sleights and moves to enhance your abilities and existing work.” Genii, November 2007

View Joshua Jay live in Lyon, performing in FRENCH! Joshua Jay: Close-Up. Up Close. (Three-DVD Set) VOLUME 1
Joshua tips the work on his 12-minute act, including his Ambitious Card and borrowed ring routines. He has performed this award-winning act all over the world, and now you'll have a peek at the thinking behind it. Also included are performance clips from his acclaimed one-man show, a detailed study of his Discreet Displacement sleight, and a special screening of “The Heckler,” Joshua's award-winning short film that pits a work-a-day magician against one of his less-than-cooperative spectators … Losing Diamonds: Visually flick the pips off the wrong card and change it into a signed selection. It’s the perfect visual break from traditional card tricks and will be the one your audience will talk about the next day. The Remote Control: A signed card is controlled “Ambitious-style” by a regular TV remote held by a spectator, ultimately appearing inside the remote's battery compartment. The magic happens at the hand of – and in the hands of – your volunteer. The Remote Control is an innovative addition to any Ambitious Card sequence and immediately elevates it to a feature piece. (Check out Joshua’s custom-crafted Remote Control gimmick – made from a real remote – by clicking here.) The Aspirin: The opener and closer to Joshua's act — produce an aspirin bottle and later reveal a signed selection inside... without ever touching the bottle. You’ll love the bold method. The Discreet Displacement: After a few rehearsals, this easy-to-do sleight will become your all-purpose card utility move. It can be used as a control, a force, or a switch, and it’s especially well-suited to magicians who don’t dedicate all of their time to complicated moves and just want to get on with powerful magic. Joshua teaches you the mechanics and the thinking behind the move, then several effects the sleight makes possible, including Discreet Displacement Collectors, an in-the-hands version of the Roy Walton classic that takes place in less than a minute. Ringin' Alarm: A borrowed finger ring (and a ring finger — no joke) is discovered inside an alarm clock... just in the nick of time! Plus: The Jay Change, D.D. Thought-Of Card, and lots more. Extra Feature: "The Heckler," a fictional film written by, starring, and co-directed by Joshua Jay. This is a darkly witty and expertly crafted six-minute film that has been screened at multiple film festivals. Watch what happens when a less-than-cooperative volunteer messes with the wrong magician. You’ll wish you had his power … VOLUME 2
The material on this volume ranges from close-up to stand-up, from beginner to advanced, and from cards to coins to ropes … and even to tape measures. But from start to finish, it's all audience-tested magic. Also included are performance clips from Joshua's one-man show, a detailed discussion of practical memorized deck magic (that won't disturb your stack), and a making-of featurette. Shrunken Revelation: This one effect is worth the price of the DVD, considering it won first place in the Marvin's Magic video competition at FISM 2000. Joshua has performed Shrunken Revelation on national television in four different countries – and with good reason. It’s quick, easy to follow, and stunningly visual magic. With hands simply waving above four packets, the four Kings appear and then instantly and visually shrink to miniature cards. Printing (Performance only): See Joshua's explosive handling of Dominique Duvivier's classic effect. There’s plenty to learn from Joshua even when he’s not “teaching.” Inflated Transposition: A dollar bill transposition with a new kicker — impromptu, easy-to-do, and perfect for walk-around. Heightened Senses: Predict any spectator's height with an "X" on a tape measure. The method is as ingenious as the effect! For serious magic developers, this is a lesson in creative problem solving. For all performers who shun “magical-looking” props, this introduces something perfectly normal into your arsenal that proves you can do magic with just about anything. The Lampshade (performance only): Straight from his one-man show, this is Joshua's acclaimed chop cup routine set to music using a lampshade and a light bulb. It’s beautiful to behold and will inspire you to think of ways you can transform other classics by using everyday objects. Pulling My String: The perfect opener to any rope routine. Stretch a short piece of rope to over seven feet in length ... visually. Dear Journal: This trick won the IBM creativity award in 1998. A "journal" deck is shown, each card bearing a different journal entry. Joshua divines not only a selected "journal" card, but even what entry is written on it! Plus: Princess in my Wallet, Invisible Coin Purse, Jumbo Homing Card, Prediction Piece, Combined Interests, and a detailed discussion on memorized deck magic from the point of view of a worker. You'll learn the work Joshua puts in the deck, an extremely deceptive in-the-hands false shuffle, and several routines that don't disturb the stack. Extra Feature: Joshua puts his secrets right in front of you, not only for his magic, but even for his DVDs. This is an entertaining and informative documentary detailing what happened behind the cameras at every stage of shooting Close-Up. Up Close. VOLUME 3
Volume 3 explores Joshua's favorite genre: formal card magic. It's Joshua Jay, a deck of cards, and an astounded audience. The range of effects is equaled only by the range of methods. Joshua uses a clever blend of subtlety, sleight of hand, and gaffs for maximum impact. Also included is a detailed study of Triumph, the Bluff Pass, and live performance footage of Joshua's gambling exposé. Trumped Triumph: A Triumph routine with an unbelievable climax. This utilizes a fascinating principle and Joshua even passes along additional ideas by Darwin Ortiz and Karl Heinn. Silent Card Routine (performance only): See the formal, elegant, six-minute opening of Joshua's one-man show, shot live in front of the usual sold-out theater. Triple Thought-of Card: Three thought-of cards. No questions asked. No preparation. No gimmicked cards. No sleights. Three thought-of cards. Works every time. Back in Time: Joshua's workhorse Triumph routine. The presentation, the structure, the sleights, the timing ... it's all worked out, ready to become your go-to card routine. Pseudo Centers Transpo: Ready to tackle some challenging material? If you're willing to put in the time, this routine will have your audience convinced you're a master mechanic. Overlap Hitchcock: A squeaky-clean assembly routine with a surprise kicker. Utilizes Joshua's ingenious Overlap Gaff. (Check out the Overlap Gaff and book by clicking here.) Bluff Shifts: Joshua's work on the Bluff Shift is raising eyebrows from magic's top practitioners. You'll learn three counter-intuitive approaches. Plus: Triumph in Aces, Paradise Aces, The Book Cut, Déjà vu Collectors, and Joshua's 13-minute gambling exposé, shot live at his one-man show. Extra Feature: A virtual gallery exhibition of Joshua’s fine-art photographs. His use of microphotography combined with his insights into sleight of hand creates stunning visual depictions of deception caught in the act. SPECIAL: Remember, by buying direct from this site, you will receive Joshua’s LECTURE PRICE of $90 dollars POSTPAID for the three-DVD set. BOOKS Split Decision (With DVD)
Two spectators look at one card. Yet later on, they can’t agree on which card was selected. A card is very fairly removed from the deck and torn in half. Half changes into the Nine of Hearts…while the other half becomes the Ace of Diamonds. Yet the halves still fit. Split Decision is at once memorable magic and the perfect souvenir (in fact, performing the trick creates two impossible objects!). What’s more, Split Decision leaves the spectators with an impossible object and an experience they will never forget. No sleights necessary. Each package contains the necessary custom-printed gimmicked cards as well as a detailed instructional DVD of Joshua Jay performing and explaining several handlings. Each gaff, custom printed by the US Playing Card Company on Bicycle stock, is uniquely designed to be torn in half and yet display two different values. Let Joshua Jay teach you the closing piece to his close-up repertoire! Sleight of Hand and a Twist of Fate
Here it is: The lecture Joshua is currently touring Europe with. Sixty-seven photo-illustrated pages in a sturdy, well-designed booklet house nine of Joshua’s signature effects, including:
These notes are the perfect complement to Joshua’s DVDs as you’ll get written instruction to complement some of the key effects he teaches on video. The writing is lucid and concise and will provide lecture-attendees a crystal-clear record of what they saw. Don’t worry if you missed the lecture though. It functions perfectly as a stand-alone book. The bonus here isn’t a trick, but the anecdotes and tales-from-the-road Joshua peppers throughout the manuscript. They provide a rare glimpse into the life of lecturer and a commentary on the magic world that ranges from laugh-out-loud funny to endearing and poignant. Joshua Jay's Magic Atlas
This is the critically acclaimed first effort from Joshua Jay that earned the respect of close-up magicians worldwide and serves as documentation of an amazing career at the point of ignition. It is full of practical, doable routines meticulously described. There are seven chapters full of magic with cards, coins, ropes, matches, paintbrushes, silks, and more, including:
Joshua Jay's Magic Atlas has received praise from some of the biggest names in magic and continues to sell like a new release. Click here to read Mike Close's glowing review from MAGIC Magazine. Other Languages In limited quantities, Joshua Jay's Magic Atlas is also available in German, Japanese, and French. Please inquire for pricing. Silver Surf Volume One Joshua wrote a manuscript for his friend Troy Hooser in 1998. It was an instant success among all the magic critics and especially among the inner circle of serious coin workers. It highlights three of Troy's most powerful coin routines (NOTE: All three are reprinted from DesTROYers). In this collection, you'll learn two sequences with three silver coins and Troy's signature "A Charming Chinese Challenge," a penetration effect using a ribbon and three Chinese coins. This booklet recently has been reformatted and updated with a bonus trick: Troy's handling of the Travelers plot, found only in this edition. Silver Surf Volume Two
This is the most comprehensive work on the flipper coin in print. Troy Hooser is most famous for his groundbreaking work with gaffed coins, specifically the flipper coin (and the use of a flipper coin in conjunction with a shell). He is clearly the authority on this gaff. While some of his experimentation is recorded in his book, DesTROYers, <link to book> this set of notes gives the topic more depth than provided anywhere else and includes routines not published anywhere else. It details several routines as well as basic moves and handling of this unique gaff. TRICKS AND GAFFS Flipper Coin
This is the one Joshua uses. Top quality and perfect for the many routines utilizing it in DesTROYers, Silver Surf Volume Two and Sleight of Hand and a Twist of Fate. Shell Coin
Another one straight from Joshua’s personal prop kit. This is a high-quality expanded shell that will nest perfectly with a Flipper coin. It is perfect for the many routines that utilize it in DesTROYers and Silver Surf Volumes One and Two and Sleight of Hand and a Twist of Fate. Chinese Coins
Each set contains four high-quality Chinese coins. What makes these coins ideal for use with Troy Hooser's effect "A Charming Chinese Challenge (found in DesTROYers and Silver Surf Volume One) is that they are thinner than other Chinese coins on the market. A stack of four is virtually indistinguishable from a stack of three. A ribbon is also included, cut at an angle for easy threading through the stack of coins. MISCELLANEOUS Pro Carrier
Simply put, this is the nicest pocket props case available to close-up workers. Used by many top names in magic, the Pro Carrier is also used by thousands of magicians worldwide. It is also Joshua's best-selling item, and for good reason: the Pro Carrier is a small case (it’s nearly indistinguishable from some of the leather cell phone and PDA holsters you see every day) that can fit into your pocket or be worn on your belt. It is made of high-quality black leather. It has a slot for a deck of cards, two slots for extra or gimmicked cards, a window for packet tricks, a window for business cards, and a coin purse with a zipper. When closed or worn on the belt, the business card window faces out. Use it to keep a mini-show’s worth of essentials handy for impromptu magic … to keep your “practice props” within reach of your DVDs or at chair-side … to contain your close-up basics in one place in your brief bag or carry-on while traveling … or as an integral part of your load set-up for performances. Priced unbelievably low for its quality, the Pro Carrier is an amazing value. Joshua Jay Playing Cards
To promote his one-man show, The Future of Magic is in his Hands, Joshua released a beautiful set of custom-designed playing cards. These cards have a slick finish and a consistency similar to Bicycle playing cards, making them ideal for sleight of hand. They are printed in full color and come in a personalized velvet box. These cards will not be reprinted and are becoming a collectible. |
